A gold-covered acacia-wood chest, about 3¾ feet long, with two cherubim of hammered gold facing each other on its lid.
Built at Mount Sinai to God's exact design; it held the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments.
Carried only by Levites with gold poles through its rings — never touched directly.
Its lid was the 'mercy seat' — the place of atonement where God promised to meet His people.
